Soundtrack to your studies - 2011

Campus sounds from the 2010s.

The main orientation concert took place in the John Hood Plaza, behind the Business School. The line-up was Kids of 88, Zowie, Computers Want Me Dead, Pikachunes and O'Lovely. Here is some footage of the event - can you spot yourself in the crowd?

This was also the year that Six60 began clobbering the local charts with their hits. ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots’ racked up tens of millions of streams, while their self-titled album went in-and-out of the charts for over a decade. So long in fact, that finally the charts were finally changed in April 2023 to make the album ineligible (along with any other releases that were over 18 months old).

The Big Day Out line-up that year was headlined by acts from previous decades - Rammstein, Tool, LCD Soundsystem and - oldest of all - Iggy and The Stooges. The love of classic rocking tunes also brought 45,000 fans to Western Springs to see The Foo Fighters. The biggest international album of the year was Adele’s 21, boosted by her breakthrough hit ‘Rolling In The Deep.’
