Soundtrack to your studies - 2015
Campus sounds from the 2010s.

The main orientation concert took place in Shed 10 by the waterfront. The headliners were UK DJ duo SIGMA and local dance music producers Jupiter Project. Here is some footage of the event - can you spot yourself in the crowd?
Jupiter Project’s ‘With You’ not only charted in NZ, but also in France and Belgium, kicking off a successful international career.
The biggest musical controversy of the year was on X Factor NZ, when contestant Joe Irvine was accused by one of the judges - Natalia Kills - of ripping off her husband, Willy Moon, who was also on the judging panel. She said Irvine he’d be a laughing stock, but instead it was her and Moon who were ridiculed and the pair left the country soon afterward. Meanwhile Joe Irvine received a supportive note and a box of cupcakes from Lorde. The event has stuck in the mind of kiwis so long that The Spinoff recently did a podcast about it. In the following screenshot from the show, you can see fellow judge Stan Walker wondering what the hell is going on…

On a more positive note, this was the year that local choreographer Paris Goebel had her breakthrough by working on the video for ‘Sorry’ by Justin Bieber. It now has over three billion views on YouTube. Funnily enough, the song appeared on his album Purpose, which also featured the song ‘Company’ that was co-written by two kiwis - Leroy Clampitt and James Wong.
The biggest international hit of the year was ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. A couple of years earlier, Ronson had played in New Zealand as one of the headliners at Rhythm and Vines, but now he was reaching a new level of fame.
