Soundtrack to your studies - 2019

Campus sounds from the 2010s.

The main orientation event was Party in The Park. This year it saw Albert Park hosting Australian dance music act Rufus. Though the support acts were equally impressive - Robinson, Benee, Church and AP. Here’s a short clip of Robinson and some of the other partying that went on that day:

Plus here’s Church and AP’s viral hit ‘Ready Or Not.’

There was plenty of other music on campus too, with Shadows hosting a hip hop night with Savage and Jess B, then reggae stars Sons of Zion.

One of the regular events on the calendar was the yearly Toga Party, where students danced in white robes then took over the Auckland Town Hall and danced to the latest hits. Did you go along in your first year?

Of course, the biggest international success was Benee, even though she was only third on the line-up at Party at the Park and actually had her name written incorrectly on the poster (‘Bene’). The first sign of her success was when the song ‘Glitter’ blew up through a run of dance videos on TikTok. However it was ‘Supalonely’ that leapfrogged off this interest to become a mega-smash with over a billion streams and counting.
