Bright Lights is our annual “chat show style” event showcasing the University of Auckland’s Distinguished Alumni Award winners. Below is a video of highlights from previous years' events.

This year, the discussion will again be led by alumnus Finlay Macdonald.

The 2018 winners are:

  • Jan Beagle, Arts (United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Management, and International Gender Champion)
  • Jennifer Gill ONZM, Education and Social Work (CEO of Foundation North, recipient of the Perpetual Guardian NZ Lifetime Achievement Award in philanthropy)
  • Robert McLeod, Law (Well-known New Zealand tax expert, former chairman of the NZ Business Roundtable and former CEO of EY Australasia)
  • William (Bill) Robertson ONZM, Creative Arts and Industries (World-renowned figure in surveying and mapping)
  • Our Young Alumnus of the Year Luke Willis Thompson, Creative Arts and Industries (Youngest recipient of the Walters Prize, recent artist in residence at Chisenhale Gallery, London)
