The four-day visual extravaganza comprises the work of almost 100 graduating undergraduate and postgraduate students and features sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, printmaking, installation, drawing, textile, moving image, sound work, and multimedia projects.

An established highlight of the Auckland arts calendar, the show attracts thousands of visitors including artists, art lovers, curators and collectors, and is widely seen as indicating the future direction of contemporary art.

A number of Elam graduates go on to forge significant creative careers both in New Zealand and overseas.

“Every year Elam students present exciting, moving, provocative and rigorous work in our annual Elam Artists Graduate Show,” says Associate Professor Peter Shand, Head of School.

“Their work traverses style, media and areas of concern and with a range of art and art practices that strengthens Elam’s commitment to contemporary art. Creativity is critically important to all of us at this time. We need to respond to the many challenges brought about by an exponential escalation of social and cultural change, environmental crisis and economic instability. Creativity reminds us of who we are as people and inspires us as citizens. We are very proud of what Elam students achieve in their work and congratulate them on their achievements,” he says.
