TED talk: The future of entrepreneurship

Wendy Kerr, Director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, has delivered a TED talk, saying entrepreneurship is all about how people think.

“The future of entrepreneurship is not what companies will be started, but how we all think.” So says Wendy Kerr, Director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, at TEDx Auckland.

Wendy’s wide-ranging talk covered her own origin story as an entrepreneur and insights into the future of the working world based on international research.

This includes forecasts that the gig economy means graduates will look for work, not jobs. LinkedIn data has shown that recent graduates have three jobs in five years. There is no more ‘one career’ for life; there’s a portfolio approach.

Nicholas Kondal, Co-President of TEDx UoA, says, “We approached Wendy for TEDxUoA 2019 because of her long-standing commitment to helping businesses and people thrive.

"Her talk exemplified her passion to engage students in the exciting world of innovation and entrepreneurship and highlighted the skills they needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This fitted perfectly with our theme for the event, “Chasing Horizons”, which focused on the uncertainty of the future and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for students.

"The entire audience (including myself and the TEDxUoA team) learned the value of thinking like an entrepreneur while taking away important ideas about teamwork, problem-solving, and empathy.”
