First Wahapū sign-up shares excitement

Computer Science PhD candidate Asma Shakil was the first of almost 500 candidates to move to the new PhD Statute.

The Statute, which came into effect on 1 October 2020, grants eligibility to access Wahapū, the University’s upcoming new tool for doctoral candidature management.

When we met, Asma shared her excitement about the system and explained why she was so quick to sign up:

"The prospect of having a one-stop-shop for all things PhD-related sounded very appealing to me. The prospect of being able to access it from anywhere, any time is also quite appealing, especially during these pandemic times."

Wahapū will transform candidature management at the University by moving manual processes online, improving transparency, facilitating local decision-making and ensuring better oversight for all users by collating candidature information in one place.

Asma said, "In the past I have had to search through my emails multiple times to find information that I was looking for, even something as simple as my earliest date of completion. I am very excited about using the new system to find all the information that I need about my PhD candidature in one place rather than having to rummage through emails."

Wahapū is expected to go live in Q4 2020 and will be available to all candidates under the current PhD Statute.

Wahapū is a comprehensive digital system for managing doctoral candidature. It will be used by doctoral candidates, supervisors, academic heads and all other parties involved in managing doctoral processes.
