Two hundred academics and emeritus academics at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland feature in the 2023 fifth annual Stanford Elsevier database of the world’s top two percent of scientists.

The Stanford Elsevier database uses a standardised citation method as the basis for ranking the top two percent of scientists. It is one way to show influence and impact in research globally.

Among the 200 researchers are a number of academics who also have senior leadership roles at the University, including the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dawn Freshwater.

The Stanford Elsevier database was developed by Professor John Ioannidis of the Stanford Prevention Research Centre as a response to the use and misuse of citation metrics.
