New club timeline 2026
- Proposal Submission: Monday 9 March–Sunday 15 March 2026. Link to submit the application coming soon.
- Review Process: The Club Support & Engagement Committee will tentatively approve or deny applications.
- Trial Period: If tentatively approved, the club may operate on a trial basis as a registered club for the remainder of the year.
- Formal Registration: Clubs granted trial status must submit full registration by Sunday 15 November 2026.
- Compliance Requirement: Clubs that fail to apply or meet Official Recognition Principals compliance will not be approved moving forward.
Expression of interest requirements
To be considered for approval, your application must demonstrate:
- Clear kaupapa (purpose)
Your club must have a well-defined and meaningful kaupapa that does not overlap with an existing club. It should positively contribute to student experience, wellbeing, and inclusion at the University of Auckland. - Sustainability
Clubs must show long-term viability, including:- Environmental sustainability
- Leadership and continuity beyond the founding executive
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity
Clubs should be accessible and inclusive to the wider student body. Considering the Universities statements and codes, clubs should be able to clearly articulate how they intend to be accessible and equitable for our diverse student populations. - Demonstrated student interest
An initial sign-up list is required to show interest from currently enrolled students and demonstrate community benefit.
Review process
The Club Support & Engagement Committee will tentatively approve or deny submissions.
Trial period
If tentatively approved, the club will need to supply additional information and may operate on a trial basis as a registered club for the remainder of the year.
Required information during the trial period includes:
- Kaupapa statement
- Club details
- Executive team details
- Club email and social media links
- Draft constitution (must follow the Student Groups Constitution Template)

Document Description: Use this to fill out your club’s constitution and outline how your club will operate.
- Official minutes for inaugural meeting
- Club bank account (if applicable):
- Must be in the club’s name (not a personal account)
- Two signatories with no conflict of interest (usually Treasurer and President)
- Membership list For the trial period, the club will be required to supply a membership list. By annual registration in November, you will be required to meet the following membership criteria:
- Minimum of 45 members
- At least 80% currently enrolled University of Auckland students

Document Description: Use this template to list the members in your club.
If the club fails to provide the required information by the deadline, it will lose its tentative approval and will need to reapply for an expression of interest in the following year.
Formal registration
Clubs granted trial status must submit full registration (including required executive trainings) by Sunday 15 November 2026.
Compliance requirement
Clubs that fail to apply or meet Official Recognition Principles compliance will not be approved moving forward.
