Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences Clinical Research Centre

These facilities are available to FMHS staff and postgraduate students for research involving human participants, as long as appropriate ethics approvals are in place.

In the early years of the School of Medicine, clinical research predominantly took place in hospitals. However, over the last couple of decades, that has changed. With the faculty rebuild in 2012, a formal Clinical Research Centre was established.

The space enables researchers to network and support one another, while also providing a location and equipment for their research.

Facilities

The Clinical Research Centre, set up specifically for researchers, features 17 bookable rooms each with a bed, chairs, desk and computer. It is located on the Lower Ground floor (LG) of Building 507.

We have shared equipment that everyone can use, including:

  • Stadiometer
  • Scales
  • BP monitors
  • ECG machines
  • Centrifuges
  • Fridges
  • Freezers (-20°C and -80°C)
  • Linen
  • Kitchen
  • Locked drug storage room
  • Phlebotomy room
Benefits for researchers:
  • Using spaces like the CRC allows opportunities for researchers to network and support one another
  • Study  participants can use the basement parking facilities in 507
