OneDrive is the recommended location for file storage. For more information, go to Microsoft OneDrive.

We offer 1GB of Google Drive storage to staff and students.

The 1GB allocation allows staff and students to access Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides created by existing staff or students and shared.

All new staff and students automatically get a OneDrive for the period they are enrolled or affiliated with the University.

What about my @aucklanduni.ac.nz email account?

These email accounts are given to new staff and students. They remain available to ex-staff and ex-students.

Your UoA Drive is a personal storage location for University work files that are unsuitable for cloud-based storage services like OneDrive. You have a 15GB quota. Once the quota is used, you will need to delete files. As your UoA Drive is located in the University of Auckland data centres, you will either need to connect to it from a University computer that is joined to the internal University network (or internal WiFi) or, if you are offsite, by using the staff VPN.

Most people won't need a UoA Drive. If you are running an application that you've tested with OneDrive and it doesn't perform correctly, or it needs a drive letter mapped, then a UoA Drive is probably the way to go.

When will a UoA Drive not work?

You will need to be on campus, using FlexIT or a staff member connecting via the Fortinet VPN to access your UoA Drive.

How do I request a UoA Drive?

If you are a staff member or postgraduate student needing storage for research, use this form: Request research storage.

Staff who need a UoA Drive for other purposes can request one through the IT portal: Create a new UoA Drive.

How to map your drive

Windows

1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E
2. Select This PC from the left pane
3. Right-click to select Map Network Drive
4. In the Drive list, select a free drive letter
5. In the Folder box, type \\files.auckland.ac.nz\myuoadrive
6. Make sure that Reconnect at login remains ticked
7. Click Finish

Apple Mac

1. From the Mac OS X Finder, click Command+K to bring up the Connect to Server window
2. In the Server Address box, type smb://files.auckland.ac.nz/myuoadrive
3. Click Connect

Linux

Follow these instructions on how to mount a network drive.

• Second choice server address: //10.10.150.224/myuoadrive

FAQ

Can I access my UoADrive files from a mobile phone?

No - you must access it using a computer.

Can I share a file on my UoADrive with someone else?

No - the files can only be accessed by you.

What happens if I accidentally delete a file and want it restored?

You can log a request for a file restoration from the nightly backup.

Can I get more than 15GB?

You can request more, but this will require investigation of your request to ensure that you are using the correct storage location.
