OneDrive - Fix Mac Synchronisation issues

If you have issues synchronising files or folders in OneDrive or Dropbox, filename restrictions or problems saving to a network drive, the cleannames.app developed by the UoA Research team may help. The app will:

1. Ask for a folder name
2. Walk through the folder's files, and subfolder's files, changing any filenames which have these characters in their names

                ~ " # % & * : < > ? / \ { | }.

• It will do the following replacements:
  • Bad characters get replaced with X
  • Multiple '.'s get replaced with __
  • Removes leading and trailing spaces
  • Name collisions have an index number added to the name
    

1. Download the app Cleannames.app.zip
2. Unzip and run the app
3. At the message "Cleannames.app" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified click Cancel
4. Go to System Preferences then Security & Privacy (you will need to do this with an administrator account)
5. Click Open Anyway
6. Run Cleannames.app
7. Choose a folder to apply the clean names
8. Click Quit to close the app
