Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua 2024 is a carefully planned and coordinated approach to meet the needs of our priority learners during their first year of study at the University of Auckland. 

We have recognised your potential to excel and want to support you so that you begin your studies with your best foot forward. 

What does this mean for me?

Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua is a conditional offer into the following programmes

  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Science

If you are eligible, we will make you a conditional offer to one or more of these programmes. This is not something you can directly apply for, but should take advantage of if the opportunity is made available to you.

Each of the Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua pathways are thoughtfully planned to take all the guesswork out of the equation. This way you can experience your first year of learning at the University of Auckland to the fullest. 

Please note: Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua conditional offers will include majors that may differ to what you want to study within the programme.

Your majors can be changed once you are active in your programme. You can only be active in your programme once you have met the conditions of your offer and have accepted a place in your programme.

What would make me eligible for Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua conditional offer?

Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua condtional offers are made to students based on their NCEA Year 12 results. You cannot apply for Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua directly.

You may not have applied for any of the programmes mentioned above, but your NCEA Level 2 results will still be assessed to determine if you meet the requirements to receive a conditional offer for Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua.

To enter a programme through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua, you will need to meet the following conditions

  1. You have met the University Entrance standard (UE)
  2. You have achieved the minimum required rank score for your programme

I've accepted my offer to study under Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua. What happens next?

Once you have met the conditions of your offer and have been accepted into your programme, you will be enrolled into a curated cohort of courses for the programme you have chosen to study under. 

To continue with your Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua offer, you will need to remain in these courses for this semester.

In your second semester, we will work with you to create a schedule of courses tailored to your programme needs.

Semester one

You will be enrolled in four courses, chosen specifically to teach you the key academic skills you will need to progress throughout your degree. You will also have access to support networks and connections with peer mentoring initiatives.   

Each pathway consists of 4 required courses in Semester 1, 2024.

Why have I received an offer through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua for a programme I didn’t apply for?

We have recognised that you are set to meet the requirements for entry into a specific programme with a Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua pathway. This is an awesome opportunity, and we strongly encourage you to consider taking it on.  

If you do not want to take on this offer and are wanting an update on your applications for other programmes at the University of Auckland, we will let you know if you have met the requirements when your NCEA results are released in January. It is easy to change to another programme if you receive another offer from us. 

How can I accept or decline a conditional offer made through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua?

I have received more than one offer through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua. Is that right?

If you’ve received more than one conditional offer for a programme through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua, that’s awesome!

This is not by mistake; it just means that you’re eligible to meet the requirements for each of the programmes offered. What you need to do moving forward is to decide which of these programmes you want to accept an offer for. We reccommend that you only choose one. 

What if I meet the requirements to enter my programme of choice without Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua?

If you meet the requirements for a programme after NCEA results are released in January and are offered a place within that programme, you are more than welcome to accept that offer - even after you have accepted a conditional offer through Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua.

Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua is one of many pathways. We're happy to support you in whichever pathway you decide to take.

I'm not of Māori or Pacific descent, is this offer for me?

Te Ara Tapatahi Hala Ki Mua is offered to any student who is studying NCEA to meet the entry requirements to enter University. It is not exclusive to Māori or Pacific students.
