If you receive an offer into the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) programme, don't forget to accept your offer by the deadline.

After you accept your place, you will need to enrol for both semesters of your academic year.

*To complete this course students must attain a level of competency in the English language as determined by the School of Medical Sciences. This course must be completed prior to enrolling in Part III of the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) degree.

Beginning your studies in a clinical programme means that you need to have credit transferred to meet part of the requirements for your clinical programme. 

Completed study at the University of Auckland 

If you've completed study at the University of Auckland, your courses will be reassigned by the University where appropriate. 

You do not need to do anything and are not expected to pay fees. 

Completed study at another university

If you've completed your studies at a university other than the University of Auckland, you need to apply for an external credit transfer.

You must apply to have your first-year courses credited to your clinical programme.

To complete this process, you will need complete the External Credit Transfer Application Form - Prior Study (AS-14).

Please note a fee of $85 will be charged for the credit transfer. The fee will be added to your account on Student Services Online (SSO).

As a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons), please be aware that you must meet the fitness to practise requirements.

Child safety

You must also pass a safety check that's required under the Children's Act 2014. You completed these requirements during the MMI process. 

As a Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Hons) student, you must be fully immunised to complete the requirements of the programme.

During the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours), you must be available for all teaching and learning activities throughout your programme.

As a new student, you are expected to attend the orientation for your clinical programme.

To begin your studies, you must be in Auckland for the start of orientation. 

The Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) is not offered online.

Orientation begins with a pōwhiri for all Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences students, before a Medical Imaging specific orientation in the afternoon. 

Key things to know: 

• You must go to your orientation for the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours)
• If you do not attend your orientation, your place in the programme will be forfeited and offered to another applicant on the waitlist
• You will learn more about key assessments and activities during the orientation

Semester dates

The Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) programme does not follow the standard semester dates.

You should add the dates mentioned below to your personal calendar.

*Attendance is required at these teaching activities which take place during the University's standard inter-semester break. 

• Test: HLTHPSYC 122
• Location: TBC
• Date: Thursday 5th September 2024
• Time: 2.00 - 3.30pm (NZST)

You must attend and complete all your clinical placements. Your clinical placements are done throughout the semester.

For the duration of your programme, you will be assigned to a radiology clinical placement site. This will either be: 

• A Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand hospital
• A major radiology private practice

You will have the opportunity to let us know your preferred clinical placement. You will be advised of all the available clinical placements to help you identify your preferred placements. 

Please note: 

• While we will try, we cannot guarantee that you will be placed in your preferred clinical placement.
• There are limited clinical placements in Auckland. This means that some students will be assigned to clinical placements outside of Auckland even though this may not be identified as your preferred placement site.
• Whilst you're on clinical placement, the University does not cover living or travel costs to complete these placements.
• Depending on the size of the radiology private practice you are assigned to, you may be asked to rotate between different radiology centres. This is to ensure that you have access to a breadth of experience in radiology.

Requirements for clinical placement

To go on your clinical placement, you need your: 

• Uniform - purchased by you from our supplier
• Electronic device/laptop. For more information, please see Information technology (IT) requirements - clinical programmes
• Name badge. This is different from your student campus card. 
• Radiographic anatomical markers

You will receive more detailed information closer to clinical placements.

To study the Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours), you must have access to a laptop (preferable) or desktop computer to complete your course requirements.

As a Bachelor of Medical Imaging (Honours) student, you are required to participate in a Māori Health Intensive. This is a compulsory part of your programme.

As a Medical Imaging student, you are required to complete your BLS certification. 

You will be completing this certification in the morning session on 27 May 2024. 

Please note that if you do not complete the BLS certification at this session, you will need to complete another approved BLS course at your own expense. This must be done before you can begin clinical placement.
