Enrolling and studying in the Bachelor of Pharmacy

If you receive an offer into the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme, don't forget to accept your offer.

Enrolling into your courses

What to enrol into

After you accept your offer of place, you will need to enrol for both semesters of your academic year. You will complete four Pharmacy courses.

Please note, you must enrol into same stream in Semester One and Semester Two. This means, if you enrol in Stream 1 in Semester One you must also enrol into Stream 1 in Semester Two.

You must enrol into your courses by 29 January 2024.

* To complete this course students must attain a level of competency in the English language as determined by the School of Pharmacy. This course must be completed prior to enrolling in PHARMACY 213.

Course credits

Completed study at the University of Auckland

If you've completed study at the University of Auckland, your courses will be reassigned by the University where appropriate. 

You do not need to do anything and are not expected to pay any fees.

Completed study at another university

If you've completed your studies at a university or institution other than the University of Auckland, you need to apply for an external credit transfer. 

You must apply to have your Stage I courses added to your clinical programme. 

To complete this process, you will need complete the External Credit Transfer Application Form - Prior Study (AS-14).

Please note a fee of $85 will be charged for the credit transfer. The fee will be added to your account on Student Services Online (SSO).

Fitness to practise and child safety

As a student enrolled in the Bachelor of Pharmacy, please be aware that you must meet the fitness to practise requirements.

Child safety

You must also pass a safety check that's required under the Children's Act 2014. You completed these requirements during the MMI process.

Immunisation requirements

As a Bachelor of Pharmacy student, you must be immunised to complete the requirements of the programme. Once you have accepted your offer, you will be sent information about the FMHS Immunisation screening programme. Please work through these documents and complete as much as you can prior to orientation.

Important dates

The Bachelor of Pharmacy has different dates to the University's semester dates. It's important that you read this information carefully to know when things are happening during the year.

Orientation

As a new student, you are expected to attend the orientation for the Bachelor of Pharmacy. 

Faculty orientation

  • Date: Tuesday 20 February 2024 (9.00am - 12.00pm)
  • Location: Atrium, Grafton Campus

Programme orientation

  • Date: Tuesday 20 February 2024 (12.30pm - 5.30pm)
  • Location: 505-011, Grafton Campus

To begin your studies, you must be in Auckland from the start of orientation. 

The Bachelor of Pharmacy is not offered online.

Orientation begins with a pōwhiri for all Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences students, before a Pharmacy-specific orientation in the afternoon. 

Key things to know:

  • You must go to your orientation for the Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • If you do not attend your first week of your programme, your place in the programme will be forfeited and offered to another applicant on the waitlist
  • You will learn more about key assessments and activities

Programme

During the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme, you must be available for all teaching and learning activities throughout your programme, including off-campus experiential learning placements.

Māori Health Intensive

As a Bachelor of Pharmacy student, you are required to participate in a Māori Health Intensive. 

This is a compulsory part of your programme and a requirement to pass your PHARMACY 213 course.

Information technology (IT) requirements

To study the Bachelor of Pharmacy, you must have access to a laptop or desktop computer to complete your course requirements.

Experiential learning placements

Your BPharm programme will include compulsory off-campus experiential learning placements. During your BPharm programme a minimum of one placement block must be undertaken outside of the Greater Auckland region.

Part II Pharmacy

In Part II Pharmacy, placements are in the Greater Auckland region at industry, hospital, and community pharmacy sites.

Part III and IV Pharmacy

In Part III, placements will be held at hospital and community pharmacies across New Zealand. In Part IV, placements will be held at hospital and community pharmacies and/or health related organisations across New Zealand.
