Brian Boyd First in Family Scholarship

A Scholarship of up to $8,000 pa for up to four years for a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident who is the first in their family to attend university, and who is enrolling in the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Auckland.

The Scholarship was established in 2020 and is funded by Distinguished Professor Brian Boyd, from his Rutherford Medal awarded by the Royal Society of New Zealand Te Apārangi in 2020, the first year humanities was included.

The Scholarship recognises both his long association with Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland and his having been the first in his family to finish high school and continue studying. It will assist students who are the first member of their immediate family to attend university and who, because of financial hardship, may not otherwise be able to undertake a university degree.
