The Award was established in 2022 with the support of McLaren Racing, generous donors and the Faculty of Engineering.

The main purpose of the Award is to provide an international experience of up to twelve weeks for a Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) student to participate in a study and research placement with McLaren Racing based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, England.
