The Scholarship was established in 2018 in honour of the late Rewi Thompson, an alumnus of and adjunct professor at the University of Auckland’s School of Architecture and Planning, who was one of New Zealand’s leading architects and a world renowned indigenous architect. The Scholarship is funded by Architectus Bowes Clifford Thomson Ltd, an architectural studio based in New Zealand and Australia, founded by friends and colleagues from Rewi’s university days.

The main purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage and support a student of Māori descent undertaking study in Architecture at the University of Auckland.
