What can you study in Community Health?
You can complete a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Community Health in areas such as: health promotion, community development, political economy of health, community mental health and addictions, global health and sustainable development. The programme also builds culturally-responsive competencies for working with Māori, Pacific, and Asian communities.
Structuring your undergraduate programme in Community Health
You’ll explore how social, cultural, economic and environmental factors influence health, and why some groups experience greater challenges in staying well than others.
Community Health looks beyond individual health to broader population health concerns, including equity, prevention and collective action. You’ll learn how evidence and community‑based practical approaches can support positive change, working with the strengths, priorities and aspirations of diverse populations.
Teaching and learning are guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi, reflecting its central role in health and wellbeing in Aotearoa.
You’ll be taught by academic staff in the School of Population Health who bring extensive professional experience and research expertise, connecting theory with real‑world community health practice.
