What can you study in Songcraft and Music Production?

Songcraft and Music Production is where creativity meets technology. You can explore the art of songwriting, performance, and arranging, alongside the technical skills of music production and audio engineering. This will give you the tools to bring original songs to life from conception to finished track.

After a common first-year core, you can continue with either Songcraft or Music Production as your primary focus. Of course, elective flexibility in the BMus also allows you to continue with both, or add a secondary area of focus from another Music Specialisation.

In Songcraft, you’ll learn to:

  • Write and refine your own songs across diverse styles
  • Collaborate with performers, producers, and other creatives
  • Analyse and apply techniques from influential songwriters of the 20th and 21st centuries
  • Share and present your work in workshop and performance settings.

In Music Production, you’ll learn:

  • Recording, mixing, mastering, and producing music using industry-standard software and world-class equipment and facilities
  • Professional industry-standard practices in audio engineering and sound design
  • Creative, technical and project-management skills required to develop a song from conception through to release in any genre
  • Connections with top recording studios and industry professionals, resulting in significant professional networks and opportunities, utilising highly relevant skills and techniques
