Skills check, TFC kōrero and diagnostic assessment

I have submitted my application. What are my next steps?

Once you have applied online, you will receive a conditional offer. You must follow these remaining steps to complete the application process and to secure your firm place in the programme:

  1. Accept (or decline) the conditional offer
  2. Submit all required admissions documents
  3. Fill out the online TFC application form and complete the skills check on Canvas
  4. Complete the TFC kōrero: skills review and course planning session via Zoom
  5. Complete the in-person diagnostic assessment

The online skills check and diagnostic assessment cover two subjects:

  • English: involves multi-choice questions in comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, and some personal writing.
  • Maths: set at approximately the level expected in Years 11–12 in a New Zealand high school. It also involves multi-choice and written answers.

Note that the skills check and the diagnostic assessment are not designed as competitive tests. Its purpose is solely to assess your abilities and for us to build a profile of you as an applicant so we can place you in the right TFC courses. There are no revision tests or exercises of the diagnostic assessments available.

Special conditions

If you require special conditions, such as extra time, please contact us.

TFC kōrero: skills review and course planning

After completing the online skills check and application form on Canvas, you may be offered an opportunity to attend a 15-minute TFC kōrero via Zoom. During this appointment, you will be discussing your future study plans, preferred TFC pathway and courses with a TFC staff member. You'll need to be available during the following days/weeks to attend the kōrero via Zoom.

In-person diagnostic assessment

Once you have completed the TFC kōrero, you may be invited to sit the final step of the application process: to sit the in-person diagnostic assessment. This consists of:
  • A written English assessment
  • A written Maths assessment

Further information is available to applicants on the TFC Application Hub course page.

Mark your calendars!

The next in-person diagnostic assessment will take place on Wednesday 26 June at 9am. Further details on this will be provided closer to the date.
