Overview

The University fosters an environment where all members of its community can thrive.

This commitment is set out in Te Ara Tautika The Equity Policy, which places requirements on University members about supporting diversity, equity and inclusion.

What you can do

Implementing Te Ara Tautika involves embracing:

  • Whakawhanaungatanga – establishing respectful relationships
  • Whanaungatanga – the reciprocal process of maintaining relationships and connections
  • Manaakitanga – upholding the mana of others by providing safe, inclusive, equitable, and accessible environments.

These guide us to:

  • Build connections – genuine relationships promote understanding in our community
  • Recognise barriers – through authentic connections, gain insights into the unique challenges faced by different groups of people in their work and study
  • Balance perspectives – appropriately consider all relevant, and sometimes competing, factors to help ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
