Pop up bike hubs

In March 2026, the University of Auckland partnered with EcoMatters and Auckland Transport to host three pop-up bike hubs at the City Campus. The activations, held in the Student Quad, offered cycling advice, bike safety checks, prizes and information about local bike hubs, helping students explore cycling as a practical transport option.

134 students completed a survey at the activations. 17% reported already cycling to campus, while a further 61% said they would consider cycling in future, either on a standard bike or e-bike. Students identified access to bikes, safe cycle routes and bike parking as key factors that would help them ride more often, highlighting opportunities to support more sustainable travel choices.

The activations will be held again at Semester One Orientation in 2027.
