SDG 8 Hub
The University of Auckland is chair of the United Nations Academic Impact Hub for Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), Decent Work and Economic Growth.
The role of the University
As chair of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub for SDG 8, the University will amplify Aotearoa’s voice in shaping global efforts to advance decent work, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable development.
Responsibility for leading this work is vested in the University of Auckland Business School research centre Juncture: Dialogues on Inclusive Capitalism (Juncture).
Juncture is a thought leader in reimagining economic systems that prioritise people and planet. Its mission is to redefine capitalism through inclusive, ethical and sustainable economic practices; indigenous economic frameworks (notably Te Ao Māori principles); and impact-driven collaborations.
By advancing SDG 8, the University is also contributing to a broader agenda of social and environmental well-being, helping to catalyse systemic change across the entire SDG framework.

Leading the SDG 8 Hub
The University is honoured to be leading the SDG 8 Hub and will leverage its capabilities in research, education and global collaboration to advance the goal of decent work and sustainable economic growth.
United Nations Academic Impact
The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) initiative connects institutions of higher education, research and scholarship with the United Nations (UN), harnessing the creativity and expertise of academia to address global challenges and further the UN’s mission of peace, development and human rights.
Established in 2010, UNAI now includes over 1,600 member institutions in 150-plus countries, collectively reaching more than 25 million people in the education and research sectors worldwide. Through the network, universities, students, academics and researchers gain access to a platform for sharing ideas, research, and resources, as well as opportunities for collaboration across borders and disciplines. The work of these institutions is vital to achieving the SDGs.
UNAI SDG Hub Network
The UNAI SDG Hub network is a cohort of higher-education institutions that have been selected to each focus on one of the 17 SDGs and advance that goal. Every hub is led by a chair, supported by three vice-chairs (for teaching and education, research, and outreach and partnership).
