Lift entrapment

Trapped in a lift? Do not panic.

  • Use the emergency call button in the lift. This will connect to UoA Security: Use the UoA alert app or call 0800 373 7550
  • Inform Security of:

- Building name/number
- Lift number
- Level (if known)
- Number of trapped persons
- Current medical conditions (if applicable)
- If any person is currently distressed by the situation i.e. claustrophobic
- Any other important information

  • If it is a life-threatening situation, call Fire & Emergency NZ on 111
  • Try and remain calm until assistance arrives

If you find someone trapped in a lift...

  • Let the occupants know that you are there and determine if they have pressed the emergency button to speak to the lift company and have called security
  • If they haven’t called Security, contact them using the UoA alert app or call 0800 373 7550. Tell them:
  • Building name/number
    • Lift number      
    • Level (if known)         
    • Number of trapped persons         
    • Current medical conditions (if applicable)-         
    • If any person is currently distressed by the situation i.e. claustrophobic    
    • Any other important information
  • Keep talking to the occupants and reassuring them until assistance arrives
