Associate Professor Susan St John, QSO

Dr Judith Aitken, QSO
Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to local government, the community and education.

Dr Judith Aitken was a Councillor for the Greater Wellington Regional Council from 2001 until 2016. Dr Aitken was also a member of the Council’s Te Upoko Taiao, Environmental Wellbeing and Social and Cultural Wellbeing Committees.

Mrs Edith Amituanai
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to photography and the community.

Mrs Edith Amituanai is a contemporary artist who is acclaimed for photographing her local Auckland Samoan community.

Mr Arthur Amputch
Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to engineering.

Mr Arthur Amputch, a Technical Director of Riley Consultants Ltd and a former Director of Tonkin and Taylor Ltd, has been involved in the design and construction of significant infrastructure throughout New Zealand.

Dame Susan Bagshaw, CNZM
Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to youth health.

Dr Sue Bagshaw has worked in the youth health sector for 30 years, is currently Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics at the University of Otago in Christchurch, and a contract educator and Trustee for the Collaborative for Research and Training in Youth Health and Development, which she founded.

Mrs Christine Bygrave
Queen's Service Medal for services to the community.

Mrs Christine Bygrave has been involved at a senior level with a number of organisations within the Mangawhai/Hakaru community for many years.

Professor Charles Eason
Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to science and wildlife conservation.

Professor Charlie Eason has been the Chief Executive of the Cawthron Institute since 2012 and a Professor of Wildlife Management and Conservation at Lincoln University.

Dr Hinemoa Elder
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to psychiatry and Māori.

Dr Hinemoa Elder is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who has strongly advocated for greater awareness of Māori cultural needs in the health sector.

Ms Susan Gardiner
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the arts.

Ms Sue Gardiner is an art patron and advocate for the arts focusing on the visual arts through community engagement, philanthropy, fundraising, arts governance and promoting art through art tours and writing for art publications.

Dr Briar Gordon
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the law and the State.

Dr Briar Gordon has contributed to the field of environmental law and has held several positions in the public sector.

Ms Stephanie Johnson
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to literature.

Ms Stephanie Johnson is an award-winning author of novels, short stories and plays and she has contributed to the development of New Zealand literature.

Mrs Sagaa Malua
The Queen’s Service Medal for services to the Tuvaluan community.

Mrs Sagaa Malua has served the Tuvaluan community in Auckland and in Tuvalu for more than 30 years, often on an unpaid basis, across not-for-profit organisations, committee memberships, through academic research projects, and previously as a secondary teacher.

The Reverend John Marsden
Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori and the community.

Reverend Marsden was General Manager of the Iwi led primary health provider Te Haa Oranga o Ngati Whatua until 2005 and was General Manager of Te Puna Hauora o Te Raki Paewhenua from 2005 until 2018. He has been Kaumatua for North Shore Hospice since 2007, where he provides spiritual support for whanau of patients in palliative care and supports hospice workers as a cultural advisor.

Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to ophthalmology.

Professor Charles McGhee has contributed to ophthalmology internationally for more than 30 years.

Mr Roderick McLeay
The Queen’s Service Medal for services to music and education.

Mr Roderick McLeay volunteered as conductor of the Auckland Youth Symphonic Band (AYSB) from 1977 until his retirement in 2018, and has taught brass and woodwind instruments as an extra-curricular activity at various primary and intermediate schools from 1966 until the present day.

Dr Claire McLintock
Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to haematology and obstetrics.

Dr Claire McLintock is a haematologist and obstetric physician at National Women’s Health, Auckland City Hospital and was Clinical Director for Regional Maternity Services from 2014 to 2018.

Mr Jonathan Mosen
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the blind community.

Mr Jonathan Mosen is a member of and advocate for the blind community.

Mr Cletus Maanu Paul, JP
Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori.

Mr Maanu Paul is a prominent member of the Māori community and has contributed to the advancement of Māori interests throughout New Zealand.

Ms Lois Perry
The Queen’s Service Medal for services to art and governance.

Ms Lois Perry has actively promoted education and engagement of local communities with art in Pakuranga and the wider Auckland region for more than 40 years.

Mrs Dawn Preston-Thomas (Danni), JP
The Queen’s Service Medal for services to counselling and victim support.

Mrs Danni Preston-Thomas has provided thirty-four years of volunteer service to vulnerable members of the Auckland community, including individuals with mental health concerns and victims of crime.

Dr Christine Roke
Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to sexual and reproductive health.

Dr Christine Roke has worked for and held positions of leadership with Family Planning for more than 40 years and has contributed her services to addressing sexual and reproductive health issues.

Dr Lynn Sadler
Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to maternal and perinatal health.

Dr Lynn Sadler is a leading perinatal epidemiologist in New Zealand and has contributed to the improvement of maternal and perinatal health.

Associate Professor Susan St John was appointed a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order in 2010 for more than 30 years of contribution to social policy.

Mr Perenise Tapu
Honorary Queen’s Service Medal for services to education and the Samoan community.

Mr Perenise Tapu has been involved in researching, developing, and teaching Samoan language for 30 years.

Mr Gary Taylor, QSO
Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the environment and resource management.

Mr Gary Taylor has continued to lead the Environmental Defence Society (EDS) since being appointed as a Companion of the Queen’s Service Order for Public Services in 2005.

Mrs Laine Tipi, JP
Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Pacific communities and education.

Toeolesulusulu Laine Tipi has been a leader in promoting early childhood education for Pacific families in West Auckland.

Captain Richard Walker
The New Zealand Distinguished Service Decoration for services to the New Zealand Defence Force.

Captain Richard Walker was appointed as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Combined Task Force 150 (Counter Terrorism) in early 2018 as a result of an unexpected shortfall in command.
