University of Auckland remains among world's top universities

Ranked 67th globally, the University’s 2027 QS world ranking is underpinned by real-world impact.

Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland has been ranked 67th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027, reaffirming its position as New Zealand's top-ranked university and maintaining its long-standing position among the world’s top 100 universities in an increasingly competitive global higher education landscape.

With more than 1,500 universities evaluated worldwide, the University of Auckland continues to perform strongly across key indicators, including global connection, research impact and positive employment outcomes for graduates, highlighting the University’s contribution to society.

Interim Vice-Chancellor Professor Frank Bloomfield said the ranking demonstrates a sustained commitment to excellence and the growing impact of the University’s work.

“Our university community has every reason to be proud of this result. Over the past decade, we have continued to strengthen our teaching, research and global engagement, and this progress is grounded in the outstanding work of our staff, students and research partners.

“Our reputation is increasingly shaped by the strength of our international collaborations, and we are deepening partnerships around the world to address complex challenges facing society. That international outlook is central to both our research performance and global standing.”

The University’s performance also highlights the broader strength of New Zealand’s higher education sector, which achieved the highest average sustainability score worldwide and leads in employment outcomes among higher education systems with three or more ranked universities.

Reflecting on these results, Professor Bloomfield said sustainability and graduate employment outcomes remain central to the University’s focus.

“Our graduates are in high demand, indicating the quality of a University of Auckland education and the meaningful real-world contributions they go on to make beyond the classroom across a wide range of industries.“

Sustainability remains a long-term priority for the University, supported by our ongoing work to embed sustainable practice across our teaching, research and operations.

Despite a challenging operating environment, Professor Bloomfield says the results reinforce the University of Auckland’s continued commitment to excellence and the resilience of New Zealand’s universities.“

New Zealand universities collectively demonstrate the high-quality and impactful education system we have here in Aotearoa.

“We are proud to contribute to that performance. For a relatively small country, it is significant to see New Zealand continuing to make its mark globally.”
