Copyright guidelines for teaching and exams

The compliance matrix sets out what you can do

Teaching materials may be protected by copyright

Teaching often involves using content created by others, both in the classroom and exam room or made available in Canvas or Talis reading lists. Some of it may be protected by copyright.

Use of this content relies on exceptions set out in the education provisions of the Copyright Act and on the licences the University has entered into which either permit copying or extend the amount that may be copied under the Act.

Managing your teaching materials

The course materials copyright compliance matrix covers:

  1. Where am I coping the material from?
  2. Where can I use the copied material?
  3. How do I remain copyright compliant?
  4. How much can I copy?
