Tertiary transport concessions
Find out about how to apply for discounted bus and train services if you're a full time student.
About the concession
If you are a full-time student, you may be eligible for up to 35% discount on your public transport fares when using your AT HOP card, compared to a single trip cash fare. For Auckland Transport (AT) purposes, being full-time means you need to be enrolled in a minimum of 100 points for the year, and 50 points for one semester. For detailed information about eligibility, see the AT Tertiary Concession Fare terms and conditions.
Services not covered by the tertiary concession include Skybus, NiteRider, Waiheke and Rakino Ferry services, Waiheke Island bus services and tertiary shuttle services.
The concessions aren’t available when using cash, so make sure you have your AT HOP card with you when you travel. You can buy an AT HOP card from the Go!Travel Ticket office located in the Quad. If you are asked for proof of identity when travelling, present your student ID card and AT mobile app that shows your student credentials.
Changes to the application process
The University is partnering with Auckland Transport to pilot a new tertiary concession application process, starting Semester 1, 2018. The new, easier application process allows you to apply for your tertiary concession online and have your concession eligibility checked online too. You will confirm your eligibility by logging in with your University of Auckland login and password to check your enrolment status.
This means you don’t need to get a sticker from us before you apply for your AT HOP tertiary concession. It also means you won’t have to reapply for the concession every year!
Applying for your concession
- Buy an AT HOP card online or from an AT HOP retailer
- Register your card online & apply for your concession at AT.govt.nz/tertiary
- Download the AT Mobile App on your smart phone
