Promoting your vacancies
Whether you’re recruiting for a one-off entry level opportunity, a summer internship, or a structured graduate programme, we can help you promote it to the right students.
Target emails
Target emails are a great way to drive additional traffic to your job listing on our student job board. They can also be used to promote other opportunities and events, or to remind students of approaching closing dates for graduate and internship programmes.
Our target email service allows organisations to directly contact their preferred group of students. We’re able to identify those students by degree type (undergraduate, masters, PHD, etc.) year of study, degree and major. The email subject heading, body text and banner image or logo are supplied by you, so you can ensure your messages and branding are consistent.
With more than 40,000 current students, we make targeted communications to students easy and effective.
To find out what programmes and subjects our students study, visit Study Options or email employerservices@auckland.ac.nz to discuss how to identify the students you wish to contact.
Target emails are charged based on the number of students contacted. To receive a quote for the cost of a target email, please enter your requirements into the CDES target email form.
Job boards and platforms employers can use
We encourage employers to use a mix of job boards to maximise visibility and reach the right audience for different types of opportunities. Below is a guide to some of the most commonly used platforms by our students and graduates, and how each can support your recruitment goals.
Key job boards and what they’re best suited for
SEEK
Best for: Broad reach across all experience levels
SEEK is one of the most widely used job platforms in New Zealand and is well recognised by students and graduates. It is particularly effective for:
- Graduate roles and entry-level positions
- Internships and structured programmes
- Roles where you are seeking a high volume of applicants
- SEEK is a strong general platform to complement more targeted graduate recruitment channels.
Best for: Recruitment + employer branding
LinkedIn plays a dual role for employers:
- Advertising roles to a professional audience
- Building brand presence and engaging with students
Many students actively use LinkedIn to explore employers, follow organisations, and research opportunities. Posting roles alongside content (e.g. employee stories, application tips) can help strengthen engagement and attract candidates.
Prosple
Best for: Graduate and internship recruitment
Prosple is tailored specifically to early talent recruitment and is a key platform for:
- Graduate programmes
- Internships and vacation roles
- Employer branding through company profiles
Students often use Prosple to research employers, compare opportunities, and understand recruitment timelines.
Student Job Search (SJS)
Best for: Flexible student work and early career opportunities
Student Job Search is widely used by students and provides access to:
- Casual and part-time roles during study
- Internships and short-term project work
- Entry-level and graduate opportunities
SJS is particularly useful for early engagement with students, as many use it throughout their studies and into the first 1–2 years after graduation.
Other platforms commonly used by students
Students may also engage with a range of other platforms depending on their interests and career stage, including:
- SEEK Grad (graduate-focused roles)
- Summer of Tech (technology internships and graduate roles)
- Indeed (aggregated job listings)
- Do Good Jobs (purpose-led and not-for-profit roles)
- Volunteering New Zealand (volunteer opportunities)
Using multiple platforms can help ensure your opportunities are visible to a diverse student audience.
Tips for maximising your reach
To get the most out of your recruitment activity:
- Use a combination of platforms
- Be clear about role type, timing, and eligibility
- Promote early, particularly for graduate and internship roles
- Consider how your employer brand and messaging appear to students
