High performance support programme eligibility criteria
Membership onto the University of Auckland High Performance Support Programme requires verified high performance achievement, or high performance potential as defined against High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) and your national sporting organisation’s evidence based pathway. All applicants will have demonstrated to having or having the capacity to achieve the required personal attributes and attitude to achieving high performance success.
Members are currently competing at an international or professional level. While the criteria is sport and activity dependent, members are typically representing New Zealand1 in a senior or age group team or playing for a professional franchise team.
1Representing another country meets eligibility if the performance level of that country can be assessed and meets or exceeds the performance level in New Zealand.
Overarching selection criteria
- High Performance Sport New Zealand – Athlete Friendly Tertiary Network
a. HPSNZ supported athletes are eligible.
i. TAPS accredited
ii. Prime Minister’s Scholarship recipients - Is the sport a HPSNZ Podium or Aspirational sport?
a. Supporting reference from NSO and/or HPSNZ performance support staff member (see Supporting Reference below) - Is the sport an Olympic, Commonwealth or FISU Summer or Winter Games sport.
a. Supporting reference from NSO and/or HPSNZ performance support staff member (see Supporting Reference below)
- At the discretion of the High Performance Support Programme.
a. To be considered, applicants should be in the top NZ team (not age group team), competing competitively at World Championships and/or ranked number one nationally in the open age group and competing competitively at World Championships.
Supporting reference
All applicants need a supporting reference from their National Sporting Organisation and/or HPSNZ verifying their application and supporting that the applicant is currently High Performance (as defined by the NSO/HPSNZ evidence based pathway (see 2), or are HP Potential 2 – defined as athletes that have demonstrated realistic (future) winning capabilities against sport benchmarks, together with the required attributes, attitude and motivation for internal success as confirmed by their National Sporting Organisation as determined by their evidence-based HP pathways.
High performance support programme supported sports
Based on sports supported through HPSNZ’s podium or aspirational framework. Olympic, Commonwealth or FISU Summer/Winter Games sports or strategic University of Auckland sports.
