Programme overview
The Postgraduate Certificate in Regional Development is a 60-point programme that offers graduates a standalone qualification in regional development, but also provides pathways to further study.
Hosted by the Faculty of Education and Social Work, the PGCertRegDev will provide students with an opportunity to critically engage with bodies of scholarly knowledge and underlying principles of regional development.
It will provide those looking to enter the field of regional and iwi policy in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally, with the latest academic and policy expertise.
Courses passed for the postgraduate certificate can be reassigned to the 180-point MRegDev provided you meet the minimum GPA entry requirement and the postgraduate certificate has not been awarded.
Programme structure
This 60-point programme will be taught in a blended/online format, where possible. It comprises two compulsory 15-point core courses, and one 30-point or two 15-point elective courses.

If you have not met the requirements you can still gain entry if you have attained an equivalent and relevant, practical, professional, or scholarly experience. Relevant professional experience may include economic and business development, environmental management, iwi development, planning or policy development, social, education, and health development.

Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $8.88 per point, estimated at $532.80 for full-time study (60 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.

Please note: Full-time study in this programme is only available in Semester One (at the beginning of the year). If you choose to commence your studies in Semester Two you will be required to complete your study part-time.

Where could this programme take you?
The Postgraduate Certificate in Regional Development will prepare you for professional responsibility in a variety of regional development roles, in both local government and iwi, in relation to New Zealand and/or international contexts. You will demonstrate an appropriate level of critical and analytical ability, programme and policy development skills, and effective written and oral communication. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and the application of a range of skills necessary for regional sector development in your specialist fields, which could include the environment, society, and education. The PGCertRegDev also provides a pathway into the Master of Regional Development, provided the postgraduate certificate has not been awarded.
