SDG Pledge
The SDG Pledge is an invitation to our students and colleagues to participate in a collective commitment to make a difference. As a community, our individual actions can add up to significant impact.
SDG Action & Awareness Week
The SDG Pledge was launched as part of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action and Awareness Week, which took place 2–6 March 2026.
At Waipapa Taumata Rau, the week was also an opportunity to reflect on how our studies, teaching, research, operations and everyday choices connect to the SDGs, and to take practical action.
The SDG Pledge
Throughout SDG Action & Awareness Week, you can sign up to the SDG Pledge. With 17 practical actions to choose from – each aligned to one of the SDGs – choose the one(s) that resonate(s) with you and are practical for you to achieve.
We will also invite members of the University community to sign up to the SDG pledge at other times during the year.
By signing this pledge, you join a growing network of students and staff turning awareness into positive impact.
Why the SDGs matter
The SDGs provide a shared framework for addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, from climate change and biodiversity loss to inequality, health, education and more.
Advancing the SDGs requires action at all levels, from the global to the local. As an institution, Waipapa Taumata Rau strives to shape sustainable futures through education, research, and thought leadership. Together, our collective commitment to action can help advance the goals on our campuses and beyond.
You can read more online about each of the 17 SDGs, and the University’s impact on these. Or download the latest SDG Report to find out more about our contribution and progress towards the goals in 2025.
