Soundtrack to your studies - 2009

Campus sounds from the 2000s.

O-week provided a great coverage of the local music scene at the time, with a run of great shows. Midnight Youth were the band of the moment after their song ‘The Letter’ became a breakthrough hit, so it was a very crowded Monday night at Shadows when they played during O-week.

Later in the week, Shadows hosted Katchafire, dDub, Pacific Heights (feat P Diggs and Mara TK), and Antiform. Meanwhile in the Quad, bFM picked the hot indie acts of the year: Charlie Ash, The Mots, and Drab Doo Riffs.

There was also a performance in the Quad by Young Sid from Smashproof, who broke the record for the longest run at No.1 by a local act for ‘Brother feat Gin Wigmore’ and they were only kept from having the top-selling single of the year by ‘I Gotta Feeling’ by Black Eyed Peas.

Over the previous few years, Rhythm and Vines had risen to become one of the biggest festivals on the local circuit and they pulled off a coup in 2008 by getting Empire of the Sun to perform at the height of their fame.
