Candidate: Dominic Begic
Read why Dominic Begic would like to represent students on the University of Auckland Council.
I am a first-year student at the University of Auckland, currently studying a conjoint Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degree, majoring in International Business. I am determined to bring a strong student voice to the University Council to ensure that it is heard at the highest level of decision-making.
My leadership skills were thoroughly proven in my role as Service Leadership Committee leader at Rangitoto College, where I was tasked with coordinating initiatives such as Relay for Life where Rangitoto College received the top-donor award for raising over $78,000 in donations. My volunteering at Murray’s Bay Sailing club, including organizing prizegiving as well as nearly 2 years of retail experience at Briscoe Group Ltd has proven my competency in teamwork and organizational skills to the wider community.
As student representative, I promise to engage with students across all faculties to pinpoint concerns, feedback and perspectives from the whole student community. I am set on making sure that the decisions made at a higher level reflect the voices of students at the coalface, emphasising inclusivity so that all students get a say in their future at the University.
This role places plenty of importance on understanding governance and making informed decisions on behalf of many, this is a responsibility that I am not only willing to bear but will be honored to have. I will attend all meetings and bring a level of commitment and energy to change because voice without action is meaningless.
It would be an honor to serve as your representative on this council. I am wholeheartedly committed to making processes work better for students and this opportunity is one that I will not take for granted.
