How we use and protect specific personal information

We collect and use information about whether someone identifies as LGBTQIA Takatāpui MVPFAFF, as being from a refugee background, or as having a disability. This information helps us understand the diversity of our student and staff communities, and the types of support and services that we need to provide. This information also helps us to monitor how well the University provides a safe, inclusive and equitable work and study environment.

We take care to protect this personal information because we know that many people may not wish to be identified to others as being LGBTQIA Takatāpui MVPFAFF, from a refugee background, or as having a disability. This information will not be used when decisions are made about marking or grades. We restrict access to this information to University staff who have a legitimate purpose to use it. We provide these staff members with clear guidelines for managing and protecting this data. These guidelines have been developed in partnership with members of the LGBTQIA Takatāpui MVPFAFF, refugee, and disability communities.
