ResearchSpace

ResearchSpace is the University's institutional repository for traditional published outputs. ResearchSpace collects, stores and preserves research produced at the University.

ResearchSpace is one of the University of Auckland's institutional repositories. ResearchSpace collects, stores and preserves research, including:

  • Theses
  • Journal articles
  • Books and book chapters
  • Reports
  • Conference proceedings
  • Other traditional outputs

A comprehensive list of output types collected in ResearchSpace is available below.

The University's other repository is Institutional Figshare. Institutional Figshare collects, stores and preserves non-traditional outputs, such as datasets, media files, code and more.

Why should I deposit my research into ResearchSpace?

  • Preserving your work: The University provides ResearchSpace, a free, long-term preservation and storage service for its researchers. If a website crashes, a publisher stops offering content online or a journal folds, you will still have a back-up copy available to you via ResearchSpace (if you have deposited it).
  • Increased discoverability: Content in ResearchSpace is harvested by all the major search engines, including Google. It is also harvested by DigitalNZ. ResearchSpace content is harvested in a controlled way with copyright protection for authors.
  • Direct and persistent URL: Any deposited item is given a handle, which, like a DOI, is a persistent URL to your work that you can use to share and collect statistics on.
  • Open Access: The University is committed to making University-generated research outputs, ideas and knowledge freely and legally available, with proper attribution and reuse information clearly provided. Our Open Access Policy mandates that all researchers must deposit a copy of their research into ResearchSpace.

Library staff will check open policy finder (formerly SherpaRomeo) to see which version of your journal article can be made legally available on ResearchSpace in accordance with your journal's terms and conditions. The Library will only make your research open if it is legal to do so.

If you have made variations to your author contract with the journal publisher, please notify the Library via Ask us.

If you are depositing a report, consider applying a Creative Commons licence to make it clear how others may use and distribute it.

If you have copyright questions or concerns, visit Copyright at Auckland.
