Scopus ID and author profile
Claiming and maintaining your Scopus ID and author profile ensures your Scopus-indexed work is correctly attributed to you.
What is a Scopus ID?
An author Scopus identifier number (Scopus ID) is a unique permanent identifier assigned to an author who has published in journals indexed in the Scopus database. Use it to track your publications and citation metrics, link to co-authors and collaborators, and establish your research profile. Keeping your Scopus author ID up-to-date ensures that your work is correctly attributed and your metrics reflect your research outputs.
Do you have a Scopus ID?
You do not have to register for this ID. It is automatically assigned when you publish two or more works in a journal indexed by Scopus. The algorithm generates your ID based on your name, email, affiliation, subject area, citations and co-authors.
If you do not have work indexed in Scopus, you will not have a Scopus ID. You cannot register for or request a Scopus ID.
Find your Scopus ID
Enter your name into the Scopus author search and select search. All the authors with work indexed in Scopus with the same or similar name will be returned.
- If you see that you have multiple Scopus IDs associated with your name, you can merge these IDs (see the Merge multiple Scopus IDs section below).
- Don't initially add affiliation or an ORCID to your search to ensure you don't exclude multiple IDs associated with your name. If necessary, use location filters on the left hand side of the results page to limit to any location you have published from in the past.
- If you have published under multiple names, search each name to check for multiple IDs and merge them.
- If you cannot find your name via author search, search for titles of your publications in the Document search. You must have at least two publications in Scopus to have an ID. Some disciplines are not well indexed in Scopus so you may not be able to find your publications.
View your Scopus author profile
This will take you to your author profile which provides a comprehensive overview of an your research output, including publications, citations and h-index. It also includes information on your affiliations, areas of expertise and collaboration network.
Make changes to your Scopus ID
To request changes to your author profile, you will need to create an Elsevier account. This is not a profile or ID but an account that give you access to more Elsevier features in Scopus and other Elsevier products. Access Scopus then select Create account at the top right of the page. Select Sign in via your institution to use the University SSO to create your account.

- In the Scopus author search results, check the boxes next to the author name then select Request to merge authors at the top of the results.
