Winter warmers

Keeping our campus warm together

This year we are trying to collect 1,000 winter apparel items! As of 13 July, we have gathered 160 and are 16% of the way to our goal.

What is winter warmers?

During the colder months, many students can struggle to stay warm with good quality clothing. Winter Warmers was started by the University Equity & Wellbeing team to provide support to students and give staff a way to give back to their community. 

Donation collection: During the month of July, we collect winter items across the City and Grafton Campuses. 

Distribution to students: In early August, we hold two events where students are able to pick two items that they get to keep for free.

Any winter items remaining after the events will be redistributed across the University for other students in need. 

Staff donations

Staff are encouraged to gather their winter clothing and accessories, and drop them at one of the many distribution points below. Please be sure to drop off all donations by Monday 3 August. No donations will be accepted after this date.

Acceptable items include coats, hats, scarves, gloves, shoes, swearters, pants, hoodies., shirts, thermals. 

Do not donate underwear, hoisery or summer clothing items such as shorts or tank top. 

Please note: clothes, accessories, and shoes must be in good, wearable condition! If they are too old for you to wear, then they probably won't be accepted for the event.

  • Business: OGGB Building 260, box near the Atrium stairs on level 1
  • General Library: Special collection 
  • Engineering: Building 402, reception on level 4
  • Grafton Campus: Building 503, reception on level 0
  • HR & Campus Environment: 49 Symonds Street foyer on level 8
  • Law: Building 810, reception on level 2
  • Old Choral Hall: At CDES reception
  • Science: Building 302, room G10

Student collection

We will hold two events where students can collect these clothing items for free! Upon arriving, students will be provided with two tokens to select and shop for winter apparel items completely free of charge.
