Psychology enrolment concessions - undergraduate

Psychology courses are very popular and fill quickly.

Unfortunately, we are not always able to accommodate all students who wish to take these courses.

Enrolment concession requests are usually processed in the order they are received. However, to ensure students are able to enrol in the courses needed to complete their degree, preference will be given to students majoring in Psychology.

Concession requests from students who are not majoring in Psychology will only be considered if places are still available.

Where a course is full, GPA is also taken into consideration.

GPA requirements

From 2019, there is no GPA requirement for:

  • PSYCH 108
  • PSYCH 109
  • PSYCH 201

All other undergraduate Psychology courses have a GPA requirement of 2.0.

Processing times

While we aim to process all enrolment concessions in a timely manner, sometimes a concession's pocessing may be delayed if:

  • We require further information (for example, exam results)
  • Further assessment by staff
  • Simply to wait for space to open up in the course.

Concession status

If your concession status is “Awaiting Results” or “Awaiting Further Assessment”, it is likely that one of the above applies to you.

You may continue to wait, or alternatively consider enrolling in another course, as we may not be able to make a final decision until closer to the start of the semester.

Tuākana streams - Māori and Pacific students

If you are a Māori or Pacific student looking to enrol in a course that appears to be full, you may still be able to enrol if there are spaces available in the course's Tuākana stream.

It is important to note that not all courses have a Tuākana stream. If you are a Māori or Pacific student trying to enrol in one of the Psychology courses with a Tuākana stream, you can apply to do so.

The Psychology courses with Tuākana streams are:

  • PSYCH 108 (Individual, Social and Applied Psychology)
  • PSYCH 109 (Mind, Brain and Behaviour)
  • PSYCH 202 (Biopsychology)
  • PSYCH 207 (Theories of Personality and Development)
  • PSYCH 201 (Perception and Cognition)
  • PSYCH 204 (Social Psychology)
  • PSYCH 306 (Research Methods in Psychology)
  • PSYCH 310 (Introduction to Clinical Psychology)
