“As a passionate student of statistics and data science, one of the most compelling reasons I chose the University of Auckland was its pivotal role in shaping the field through the creation of the R programming language. Developed in the 1990s by two of the university’s own academics, R has become a foundational tool for data science worldwide.

“What makes the experience even more rewarding is the community of warm, welcoming people who foster collaboration and support, and the natural beauty that surrounds the campus. It's a place where both the mind and spirit can thrive. For someone like me, who is deeply motivated to turn data into insight and insight into impact, the University of Auckland truly felt like the perfect place to begin that journey.

“This degree will equip me with the technical expertise, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving experience needed to bring those goals to life. It’s not just about gaining knowledge; it’s about using that knowledge to make a real difference.

"I aspire to apply this knowledge to create innovative, data-driven solutions that improve how organisations operate and contribute to positive social and economic change."

Receiving a scholarship was life-changing, it meant far more than just financial support. It gave me a confident start to my tertiary journey.

“The scholarship was a powerful vote of confidence that made me believe in myself. Whenever I face challenges, I draw strength from that belief.

“I learned about the scholarship by exploring the University of Auckland website, where I found detailed information about available opportunities, eligibility criteria, and application timelines. I made sure to read everything carefully and prepare ahead of time so I could submit a strong application.

“Living in Auckland has been an incredible experience, it truly feels like the best of all worlds. From stunning beaches to peaceful parks and lush hiking trails, there's always space to reconnect with nature, breathe deeply, and recharge both physically and mentally.

“What I love most is the lifestyle here. It’s calm and peaceful, but never boring. The people are genuinely kind and welcoming, and there’s a strong sense of community that makes you feel at home right away. Plus, the fruits and vegetables are amazing - fresh, diverse, and full of flavour!"

She offers some advice for those thinking about making the move here. “My biggest advice is to take the time to really explore the programmes the University offers and find the one that truly excites you. When you feel passionate about what you're studying, everything from lectures to late-night assignments feels more meaningful and rewarding. The university offers a supportive, world-class environment where you can grow academically and personally, so trust yourself, do your research, and be bold in taking the next step. It could be the beginning of something incredible.”
