About Generation Changemaker

Generation Changemaker is the University's co-curricular programme for incoming study abroad and exchange students with a focus on learning about sustainability in the New Zealand context.

Is Generation Changemaker for me?

If you are an incoming study abroad or exchange student eager to delve into creative solutions for global challenges, collaborate with peers, and immerse yourself in a new culture and country, then Generation Changemaker is for you!

Drawing on human-centred design techniques, our evening workshops will focus on how individuals can take action and find solutions to sustainability issues that matter most to us.

In the workshop, you will get to hear from a range of Kiwis at the forefront of climate action in NZ. From politics to business to Indigenous practices, our workshop will set you up with information about sustainability in the country.

The Generation Changemaker programme will help students to understand the importance and power of taking action, and will be followed by an opportunity to do just that at our volunteer field trips.

All students will attend the full-day field trip to the beautiful Motuihe Island. There, students will engage in a range of activities that help our native trees and birds thrive. There will also be other opportunities offered around Auckland for tree planting, nursery work, clean-ups, and more!

Before you begin your semester at the University of Auckland, you will be sent a link where you can register your interest in the programme.

Programme dates:

The workshop usually takes place on a Wednesday or Thursday evening in the second or third week of semester.

This will be followed by a range of weekend volunteer opportunities throughout March and April (Semester One) or July and August (Semester Two).

  • The volunteer trip dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions or resources.
