Designed for graduates of the Master of Behaviour Analysis, the PGDipAppPsych programme will prepare you for professional practice in the application of this sub-discipline of psychology.
The programme is flexible and draws on the interests and expertise of Psychology academic staff, which means you’ll be working with up-to-date theory and practice. You’ll complete a supervised practicum that will allow you to apply your knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.

Masters degree in psychology, or equivalent prior study
You must have completed a masters degree in Psychology with a minimum GPA of 5.0, and passed PSYCH 741, 749, 750, 751, 754, 759 or equivalent courses.
You may also need to complete an interview and provide letters of reference.
Before applying, you must consult with academic staff in Behaviour Analysis regarding supervision of your proposed practicum and the postgraduate courses you intend to study, and include written approval from your proposed supervisor with your application.
*In some cases, Psychology academic staff may require you to have passed particular courses in your masters degree. Therefore, if you haven’t yet completed your masters degree in Psychology, we advise you to plan carefully to ensure you include these required courses. Fees are set in advance of each calendar year and will be updated on this website. Fees are inclusive of 15% GST, but do not include the Student Services Fee, course books, travel and health insurance, or living costs. Amounts shown are indicative only. In addition to the tuition fees, there is a Student Services Fee of $9.44 per point, estimated at $1,132.80 for full-time study (120 points). Fees will be confirmed upon completion of enrolment into courses.

Graduates of the PGDipAppPsych will meet the requirements for becoming a registered psychologist, allowing them to practise in New Zealand. If your area of interest is applied behaviour analysis, you can become registered with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Psychologists with this qualification who have already completed a masters research thesis could enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
