Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education
Professor Sarah Young BSc PhD Otago
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education provides strategic leadership for the University's academic mission, overseeing learning and teaching, curriculum, and academic standards. This includes leading the Education Office, which oversees the University's strategic education initiatives and ensures the teaching and learning activities are aligned with Taumata Teitei, Vision 2030 and Strategic Plan 2025.
Professor Young was previously Dean of Science at the University, and prior to that, head of the School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney. In addition, Professor Young has held a range of leadership positions, including Deputy Dean of the Dunedin School of Medicine at the University of Otago.
Professor Young, has a PhD in Immunology from the University of Otago in 2000 and has undertaken research in New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and the USA. Professor Young has been recognised with awards such as the Sir Charles Hercus fellowship, through the Health Research New Zealand, and a Fulbright senior scholar award.
