University preparation programmes

A preparation programme may be a pathway to university if your school qualifications are below the level required for admission, if you have not studied for a long of time, or if you don't meet the English language requirements.

UniBound

UniBound is a two-semester programme that equips Māori and Pacific school leavers without University Entrance with the skills they need to enter university.

As well as learning academic skills such as critical reading and writing, lecture note-taking, time management and organisation, UniBound also provides a positive and friendly introduction to the systems, space and culture of the University of Auckland.

The programme begins in Summer School and concludes at the end of Semester One.

Tertiary Foundation Certificate

The Tertiary Foundation Certificate (TFC) gives you a chance to gain an entrance qualification and the skills you need to succeed at university if you left school with limited qualifications.

When you successfully complete this one-year full-time preliminary programme in Arts and/or Sciences you will be qualified to apply for admission into degree programmes at the University of Auckland or other tertiary institution.

If you complete the TFC with a B- or better average you will be guaranteed a place in the Bachelor of Arts at the University of Auckland without conditions.

If you complete the TFC with less than a B- you will be assessed by the Faculty Admissions Selection Committee. You may be offered a place in the BA with conditions attached to your first semester of study, such as a lighter course load or an academic English course.

Māori, Pacific and Disabilities students who complete the TFC with less than a B- average may be offered a place in the BA under the Targeted Admission Scheme.
