Alumni honoured at Kea's 2019 World Class NZ Awards

Two alumni were among those celebrated as outstanding Kiwis at the 2019 Kea World Class New Zealand Awards. The awards recognise outstanding achievements that increase New Zealand’s reputation on the world stage.

Award winner Fady Mishriki is the founder, former CEO and former CTO of New Zealand wireless charging technology company PowerbyProxi. Fady was celebrated for his significant and ongoing contribution to the global technology and business ecosystem. He is now Managing Director of Apple’s Auckland Technology Centre and board member of the Wireless Power Consortium.

Fady studied a Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Auckland. In 2013, he was named University of Auckland Spark (now Velocity) Entrepreneur of the Decade and two years later he was presented with the University’s Young Alumnus of the Year Award.

Fady has generously supported the University of Auckland’s Dean’s Leadership Programme for Engineering and Velocity, the University’s entrepreneurship programme. He was recently inducted into the University of Auckland’s Chancellor’s Circle and is also on the University’s Business School Advisory Board.

Fellow award winner Elizabeth Iorns is the co-founder and CEO of Science Exchange, which has grown rapidly in the past few years. It has raised around $US60 million in venture capital funding.

Science Exchange is a world-leading marketplace enabling scientists to outsource their research and development needs to scientific experts and institutions around the world. Elizabeth was celebrated for her outstanding contribution to improving the quality and efficiency of scientific research.

Elizabeth completed her biomedical science degree at the University of Auckland in 2003 and her PhD at the Institute of Cancer Research, University of London, in 2007.
Elizabeth was named as one of the University of Auckland’s 40 Under 40 in 2017 and was recently featured in the University’s alumni magazine, Ingenio, which can be read here.
