Statement on events in Iran

Friday 7 October

Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland is deeply concerned by events unfolding in Iran.

We honour the courageous women and men of Iran who are responding to the tragic death of Mahsa Amini, supporting their own human rights and standing against discrimination and repression.

We particularly deplore the violence being used against students and staff in some of Iran’s universities.

We know that many people in our University community are upset by these events. Our thoughts are with our staff and students from Iran, and others across Aotearoa New Zealand who have connections to the region.

Support services are available for anyone at the University affected by the situation, including Te Papa Manaaki | Campus Care and University Health and Counselling for students, and the Employee Assistance Programme for staff.
