Upgrade to University of Auckland ClockTower entrance

Updated Thursday 17 August 2023

The improvement works to the main entrance of the ClockTower on Princes Street are progressing well, however some weather-induced delays in recent months mean the work will now run to the end of September.

Access into the ClockTower is via the rear doors, and there is an alternative route from Princes Street via the accessible pathway between the ClockTower and Alfred Nathan House, as shown on the map below.

The works will significantly improve access to the ClockTower, particularly for staff and visitors requiring mobility or wheelchair access.

What is changing

The improvements to the ClockTower will include a new stone landing and stairway at the front entrance, a new accessible platform lift and pathway, refurbished exterior doors and the installation of an actuator to the interior doors.

This is a necessary project that will improve both access to the ClockTower and the appearance of this flagship building.
