Statement on international conflict

Friday 27 October 2023

I am aware that there is deep concern amongst our University community around the escalating conflict in the Middle East, the potential for further escalation and indeed the multiple continuing conflicts across the world. This is especially difficult for those in our community whose loved ones and colleagues have been, and continue to be, impacted. We extend our thoughts to those who are suffering, both locally and abroad.

The magnitude of these events and the troubled times in which we find ourselves serve as a reminder of the international diversity of our University and the wide range of cultural, ethnic and political perspectives that are brought together within this institution. We value the contribution this diversity brings to the University.

We, as a University, stand together at such times to embrace and support our staff, students and community in recognition of our core institutional value of respect for others and in the service of an inclusive University. It is even more critical that we live our values at times such as these.
