Connect with our students

Enhance your employer brand, build awareness about careers in your industry, and recruit University of Auckland students.

""

Developing your student engagement plan? CDES can help you plan your student interactions and connect you with future interns and graduates.

Our yearly Career Expos are our flagship events. Outside of these, we offer a wide range of other engagement activities throughout the year to help you promote your brand and opportunities to students. Read more about our options below.

Recruitment events

Recruitment events are your opportunity to engage directly with students, either on-campus or online. Please visit our recruitment events webpage for further information on what is included and how to register.

Employer-led skills sessions

Our 60-minute workshops support students from all faculties to develop their employability skills. During the session, content focuses on encouraging students to learn more about themselves, what they have to offer, and how to prepare for life after university.

It's also an opportunity to tell students more about the world of work, offer advice that you wish you had known and support them on their career journey. If this sounds of interest, we would love to hear from you!

Employer-led ‘career chats’ or Q&A sessions

Our 30-minute career chats / Q&A sessions were developed as a bite-sized alternative to our 60-minute workshops. Help answer students’ burning career and employability questions in an informal and relaxed setting.

Each of our career chats focus on different topics, including:

  • Interview skills (face to face, video, informal coffee chats, assessment centres)
  • Networking skills (engaging face to face and online)
  • Workplace etiquette 101 (dos and don’ts for when you start working)
  • LinkedIn, CV and cover letters

Speak at our career events

Our career events are designed to support student career development and educate them about the world of work. These events can be both faculty specific and generic – attracting students from across the University.

We are always on the lookout for speakers at various stages of their careers, who can speak on specific topics and share their experiences and insights. We are particularly excited to welcome back University of Auckland alumni who would like to share their journey with current students. If you would like to speak at a future event – get in touch or keep an eye out for an email invitation from us.

'Spotlight on' industry events

We’re keen to facilitate events that give students the chance to learn about other industries. We have previously worked with the NZ Food and Grocery council, IPENZ Transportation group, and the Industrial Organisational Psychology Special Interest Group (IO SIG) on several events and initiatives. Please get in touch with us to chat through your ideas.

Employer daily drop-in session

Be part of our daily one-hour drop-in sessions, designed to answer students’ quick questions about applications, general career advice and employability. Plus, give live feedback on their CVs and cover letters.

Pop up stands

Want to engage with our students in a fun and affordable way?  BYO banner and giveaways, and chat to our students in a prime location on campus. Pop up options:

Pop up plus

In addition to our standard employer pop up, through our ‘pop up plus’ you can add on some extra promo to target the students you want! (for targeted promotion only)

Happy Hour Pop up

Host happy hour in student bar, Shadows – which has been given a nice new makeover and is now conveniently located next door to the Kate Edger building. Put some dollars behind the bar for drinks and snacks (or you can BYO pizzas), and have a casual catch up with our students.

Coffee Hour Pop up

Have a chat with our students over a morning – or afternoon – coffee at one of our on-campus cafes.

Social Media Takeover

Want to take over our social media platforms for a day? Post across the CDES Facebook and Instagram pages for a small fee, Monday to Friday.

Social media takeovers are open to employers looking to increase their visibility among students. You do not have to be actively hiring, though posts should focus on your company's culture and careers.

Posts can be in the form of static images or multimedia videos. Get in touch to find out more and lock in a date.

On-campus interviews

If you’re interviewing University of Auckland students and/or visiting from out of town, why not hold your interviews on campus?

We have several spaces available for hire, which can accommodate various interview and assessment formats.

Important dates

Want to package up a few options?

Wanting to attend and host multiple events and engagements on campus this year?

We can work with you to create a schedule of engagement events across the year. You’ll also get
the bonus of a discount when scheduling multiple paid engagements.
